About This Blog

I believe that the written word is mankind's greatest achievement, having allowed us to pass information, stories and our history down through the ages. Without words, we would be nothing as a race and would not be capable of accessing the knowledge we need to live in, build on and mould the world around us.

And with the advent of the written word, came books. Books that have allowed information and knowledge to be stored forever. Books that have allowed storytellers to weave worlds beyond imagination and tell of those events we love, which have happened only in their own minds; of those we know of, which have happened in reality; and even those that have not yet come to pass, making bold predictions of the things to come.

Each and every book that has ever been written is a milestone, another slab in the ancient path of human history; serving as a testament to our boundless imagination. Without books, without words, we would be nothing and this blog aims to review some of the words of mankind - focusing on the remarkable works of fantasy and science fiction that authors love and dare to produce.

And yet, as I make this blog and type this page, I'm well aware that there are probably thousands of sites like this already out there - littering the internet with each author's views and opinions on what was good or bad with their latest read and why therefore, you should lovingly delve into its pages or give it a miss. And let's face it, does the internet really need another one?

Well, if I'm honest, no... but, as the Google Chrome advert so wisely says: "the internet is what we make of it". A nice little quote that brings me here - writing this page. So what does this blog offer you that's different from all of the others out there?

Well, nothing actually. All it does is provide you with news on recently published books and, you guessed it, my own opinions on the many novels and stories I've read. All I can promise is that these opinions will be honest and all of the books reviewed on this site will get the praise they deserve. Furthermore, none of my reviews (unless I state otherwise on individual posts) will contain spoilers, so you can enjoy reading them without fear - I am writing them for you, after all!

I hope that you will enjoy reading the reviews posted here, on Fantasy Bookshelf Review, and that you will find them useful in helping you decide what to read next!
